About Us
This thread is our story about building this insanely useful product. Once upon a time there was...nah! This is how it really starts. 👇Mr. Paras Chopra Founder and CEO of Wingify tweeted this brilliant idea about building an app where the very best of Twitter threads are curated under various categories. There were a lot of candidates wanting to take on this task and one of them was Yash ... the man the myth the legend.A little backstory about Yash. He is sharp witted when it came to academics but always uncertain about his college. Initially in MPSTME Mumbai, then in KIT Germany then currently in UBC Canada where he is studying what he truly loves CS.Excited about Paras's idea he approached his partner in crime, thats me Dharmi 😉. I was enjoying my corona-cation but the enthusiasm with which Yash asked me, I didn't have no for an answer.Knowing each others strengths and weakness's added to our benifit and we were confident and excited to get this product out.Embarking on this idea and remembering our past learning we were pretty clear about the mistakes to avoid:
- 1. Not wasting time on Logo
- 2. Well defined work and expectations from each other.
- 3. Aiming for the bare minimum MVP and getting it out ASAP!
- 4. Setting a realistic deadline which for us was 15 days.
We started building it in the start of May 2020 and had a functioning MVP ready by the end of May, why you ask did it take us two weeks more... thats because of the Stringent Apple Terms and Conditions. All this time when we were building the app Mr.Paras Chopra was in constant interaction with us guiding us on how to make it better. Yash and I will always be grateful to him for that.Ohh did i forget we also got a chance to get on a Video conference with him although it was meant to be 15 mins long but it went for for almost half an hour. That half an hour was the most insightful half an hour.A few Learning we got from that call- 1. Small small things matter to the user subconsciously.. things like word spacing, padding that can seem like a very small thing but give a very bad user experience.
- 2. Do not try to do too many things in the beginning, try focusing your features to a targeted audience at first.
- 3. For asking feedback from users don't ask Abstract questions like "How do you like the app?" rather start by asking specific questions like "How many times did you use the app in the last one week?"
- 4. Try and make the users form a habit to use your product which in our case it was, is there a way we can ask the user to spend 5 mins of his morning everyday to read insightful threads.
- 5. Build the feedback loop and keeping building on it and if you see that the user is not interacting with the app much then go back to the first principle like what could be going wrong is it the UX, or even ask if you are solving a real problem?
- 6. Don't Waste your time thinking about vision rather focus on increasing user engagement.
yup actually these were just 6 points. I remember we had jotted down almost 24 points of feedback to make this app better. One thing Yash and I both understood was the power of Twitter and persistence. There were a lot of times in between where we would see ourselves wasting our time with things like vision but while building this app we kept reminding ourselves to stick to the grassroots, which was user feedback and engagement.Since June we almost shipped an update every week with new usable features and bug fixes. If you haven't downloaded the app yet then what are you waiting for? It's free Download now. iOS, AndroidThank you for reading this and we hope youb have a pleasureable experience while using our app. We welcome all kinds of feedback and suggestions from you, feel free to contact us anytime.@thread_reader, @Dharmi Kumbhani, @Yash Atreya.
